ABOUT CORROSION

Corrosion is the natural deterioration of materials, primarily metals, due to chemical or electrochemical reactions with their environment. It is a major challenge across industries such as oil & gas, marine, aerospace, infrastructure, and power generation, as it can lead to structural failures, safety hazards, and significant financial losses.
There are various types of corrosion, including uniform corrosion, galvanic corrosion, pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking. Factors such as humidity, temperature, chemical exposure, and environmental conditions influence the rate and severity of corrosion.
To mitigate corrosion, industries implement various preventive measures, including protective coatings, cathodic protection, material selection, and corrosion inhibitors. Regular inspection and monitoring through techniques like Nondestructive Testing (NDT) and advanced corrosion assessment methods (such as Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement and Electrochemical Testing) help ensure structural integrity and longevity.
With growing concerns about asset durability and safety, advancements in corrosion science and technology continue to develop new solutions for corrosion control, emphasizing sustainability and cost efficiency.
